Born:  ALBERT LESLIE Cartledge in 1895 in Ballarat, Victoria

Albert Leslie Cartledge was a jockey before the war.

His mother  (Ellen Cartledge) had been accidently shot by his father (Albert Cartledge).
He lived with his sisters up until the war with Blanche May and Peter Cartledge (his uncle).

Next of kin:  Sister - Rita Cartledge, lived at 171 Main Road, Ballarat, VIC (1920 dec)

Sisters - Doris Irene Cartledge, 141 Malvern Road, Malvern, VIC (18-10-1920 - 15.5 yrs of age)
           - Marjory Cartledge, 141 Malvern Road, Malvern, VIC (18-10-1920 - 12.5 yrs of age)

Leslie was described on enlisting as 20 years, 7 months of age; sing;e 5' 2" tall;
fresh complexion; blue eyes; fair hair; Church of England

02/08/1915     enlisted in Melbourne

13/10/1915     appointed to 6th reinforcements, 24th Infantry Battalion,
                      Broadmeadows Camp

27/10/1915     embarked Port of Melbourne, VIC onboard HMAT A38 Ulysses
                      as a Private with 24th Infantry Battalion, 6th reinforcements

26/02/1916     transferred to 60th Infantry Battalion at Tel-el-Kebir
