Son of William Cooper and Harriet Mary Cooper nee Ashley of Gorsby Hill, Western Crewe, Cheshire, England

Between 19 September 1919 and 2 November 1919 he had paid leave to attend Foden's Ltd., Engineers of Sandback, England for traning as a Fitter

Commenced return to Australia on 18 December 1919 aboard Konigin Luise disembarking on 4 February 1919

In March 1925 Walter was residing in Carson Street, Hawthorn, Victoria

During 1925 Walter  married Hilda Gwendolin Wines in Victoria
