Elbert Reddington Edward COBB was born on 22nd July, 1894 in Russell, St Lawrence, New York - on one of his enlistment papers he stated he was born in Montreal, Canada which is incorrect - he was also listed under Albert Reddington COBB which was corrected to Elbert later on after his Mother contacted the Army

His parents were Stephen Montgomery COBB and Caroline Amanda REDDINGTON who married on 28th December, 1875 in Bucks Bridge, St Lawrence, New York

He first enlisted in Melbourne on 30th December, 1915 and embarked with the 24th Infantry Battalion, 10th Reinforcements from Melbourne on the HMAT Wiltshire on 7th March, 1916 - he returned to Australia on 28th July, 1917 suffering from pleurisy and was discharged on 29th November, 1917

Elbert re-enlisted in Melbourne on 15th January, 1918 and embarked from Sydney on the RMS Osterley on 8th May, 1918 as an Air Mechanic 2nd class with the February reinforcements of the Australian Flying Corp (AFC) - he returned to Australia on 1st November, 1919 & his employment was terminated on 7th January, 1920

In 1943 while living in Brisbane, Queensland he applied for naturalization and stated he had been living in Australia for 40 years by that time

Elbert died at Peel Island, Queensland on 30th May, 1959
