Raid on Celtic Wood

Private Adams was in the field with D Company which bolstered C Company’s numbers for the raid. Since there was no requirement for a Court of Inquiry or a need for the Red Cross to carry out enquires into his fate, one or more witnesses must have seen him killed or at least sighted his body. The above factors, when linked to a lack of evidence to show he was killed on Broodseinde Ridge, such as a witness to his burial, and the fact that the CO signed the Field Return stating explicitly, that like Scott and most of the confirmed raiders, he was killed on 8 October all indicate he was a raider.
