A shell struck a billet seriously wounding and burying two of the battery under a wall. Gunner Yates who was in a shelter near by immediately went and with three others worked in the wrecked room until the wounded men were released. During this period several other shells burst close against the billet. He then assisted to get them away under fire. He showed throughout great bravery and determination, and devotion to his wounded comrades.
