Real History
Alexander McKenna enlisted with the AIF in 1914 whilst living in Melbourne, Victoria. He used this alias name (as well as A. Mc Kenner), instead of his real name Almond Goddard Atkinson. Almond was born in Wilcannia to James Henry and Alice Jane Atkinson. They eventually settled in Lambton, Newcastle. Almond could have used the surname Mc Kenna, as this was his grandmother's maiden name. In this NAA WWI scanned records, Alexander / Almond suggests as such, and tries to have his real name reinstated.
