John Dyer had a fair complexion, blue eyes and blonde hair. At the age of 19 years and six months he decided to enlist in the Australian Imperial Force to join the war. He was from Hyde Park and born in January, 1896. When he enlisted, he made his next of kin his mother, Sarah Jane Dyer.
His trade was carpenter, but in the AIF he got the position of a driver. He was in the 6th Field Artillery Brigade and after enlistment he embarked on his journey to Melbourne on the 22nd of November, 1915. After four years of working hard in the AIF, he was discharged on the 29th of May, 1919. No details are known of his later life.
