Sidney enlisted at Morphettville where his attestation papers were signed by Lieutenant Kayser of the 10th Battalion. Sidney like a good many other South Australian and Broken Hill recruits would have undergone his initial training with the 10th Battalion and must have been disappointed when informed they had been allotted to the 12th Battalion. As an original member of F Company 12th Battalion AIF he and a number of his mates from Morphettville travelled by train to Victoria and embarked aboared the Transport Geelong in Melbourne on 17 October 1914. The Geelong then sailed to to Hobart, Tasmania where the main body of the battalion embarked on 20 Oct 1914 .
The 3rd Brigade "All Australia Brigade" 1st Division AIF comprised of the 9th,(Qld) 10th, (SA & Broken Hill NSW) 11th (WA) and 12th Battalions (Tas & SA) was chosen by the divisional commander Major-General Bridges to have the great honour of being the covering force for the ANZAC landing on 25 April 1915.
After recovering from wounds received at ANZAC, he was transferred to the 50th Battalion in April 1916. He was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for “Bravery in the Field” at the battle of Pozieres and Messines in FRANCE in July 1916. He was promoted Lance Corporal on 18 Jan 1918 and was again wounded in action (WIA) on 15 Jul 1918. Bradford returned to Australia on 27 Jan 1919 and discharged on 28 Mar 1919. He died on 2 January 1967.

A SOLDIER HONOURED.
Cr. P. J. Bradford of Murray Bridge, has been informed that his son Pte S. C. Bradford has been awarded the Military Medal for “bravery the field" at the battles of Pozieres and Messines in France. Private Bradford enlisted with his elder brother Corporal J.W.A. Bradford, at the end of August 1914 in the 10th Battalion, and both were at the famous landing on Gallipoli, and were subsequently wounded. A younger brother Corporal C. E .Bradford, who enlisted in June 1915 is also with the Colours in France. Pte Bradford has declined promotion on several occasions, and has been highly complimented.
Note:
Sidney's elder brother John Willian Archie Bradford was an original member of C Company 10th Battalion but after being wounded at Gallipoli was invalided back to Australia on 31 October 1915
On 12 October 1918, Sidney's younger brother, Sergeant Clement Everly Bradford MM & Bar, also of the 50th Battalion, died of "Heart Failure,secondary Influenza, Pneumonia" in the Australian Auxilllery Hospital at Harefield Park in England; he was 22 years of age.
