Served during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.
54 years ago today, on the 12th August 1966, Private Archibald Andrew Bell, Australian Corps Headquarters, machinist from 20 Parry Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 74. CATHOLIC 1-27. 98.
Born at 71 Glebe Street, Glebe, New South Wales on the 26th April 1892 to Andrew (died 1926?) and Emily Mary E Bell (died 1929, sleeping next to Archibald), Mr Bell enlisted July 1915 with the 30th Battalion at Liverpool, N.S.W.
Archibald returned home, apparently uninjured, August 1919, being discharged on the 3rd October 1919.
I have not located Archibald’s name inscribed on any known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.
Mr Bell had been resting in an unmarked grave, forgotten, so July 2015 I placed a cross on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.
