My Great Grand Father was born in Buninyong Victoria in 1868, to John Marmaduke Boak (8th) and Hannah Pearson, unfortunately his mother died of illness when he was only 2 years of age. Alexander was the 6th child, having 3 x brothers and 2 sisters who all attended the Yendon Primary School. He married Ellen Robinson in 1892 and they had 10 children from 1893 - 1910 ( Alexander, William, Leslie, Alfred, Joseph, Ruby, Ivy, Queenie, Edward and Ada).
On the 2nd of October 1916 Alexander enlisted with the AIF as the 1st war broke out and like many men answered the call of duty. A private SN 3069 with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion, Alexander Campbell Boak boarded the HMAT Hororata Melbourne along with 152 men of the 2nd Pioneer Battalion heading off to war.
He was 44 years of age and now bound for the western front. A strong dedicated family man from Yendon, Victoria returned to Australia on the 19th October 1917. He returned to the family farm at Yendon.
Sons Alexander, Leslie and William had also enlisted in the war, tradically son Alexander John Boak was killed in action in 1917 at Beaucalcourt, France. Leslie & William return in 1918/1919 respectively.
Alexander, retuned to life in the small township of Yendin, the rabbit farmer saw out his life there and passed away in 1938.
