2108 Private Harold William Barrow a butcher from Adelaide, South Australia, was in the field with D Company. He was wounded at Gallipoli in August 1915, again in France in May 1917 and was admitted to hospital with Trench Feet in January 1917.
He like others killed wounded and missing after the raid on 9 October was recorded on the 13 October Field Return as missing 8 October but a Court of Inquiry convened on 16 May 1918 found he was killed in action on 8 October. (9 October)
In September 1920, his body was recovered by the Graves Registration Unit forward of the ridge near the raid Forming Up Point. (See Map in images) Because of the order issued to every unit on Broodseinde Ridge warning them to keep their men off the eastern slope, unless Barrow was a raider, he had no reason to be near the FUP. Barrow’s pay book was used as proof of identification and he was exhumed and laid to rest in Tyne Cot Cemetery.
