He was 25 and the son of John and Helen Gunn, of 34, Park Avenue, Portobello, Scotland.
He is remembered on the Loanhead Great War Memorial, Midlothian

Liberton is a suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is in the south of the city, south of The Inch, east of the Braid Hills, north of Gracemount and west of Moredun.
William Gunn was the son of John Gunn, the Provost of Loanhead between 1896 and 1900, and brother of John who also died in the war.

Obituary : William Gunn - Australian Infantry, AIF [Midlothian Journal 15 September 1916]: Ex-Provost Gunn has again been called upon to suffer bereavement, his third son 'Willie' of the Australian Contingent, having been shot through the head while engaged in active service on the Western front a few days ago.
