WW1

Occupation prior to WW1 was Business manager of Fremantle WA. He enlisted 25 October 1915 aged 30 years and returned to Australia 6 June 1919.

                   'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took command of his
                    company and led his men forward with great gallantry. Later, he went back
                    under the most intense fire to report the situation.'

11/07/1917  promoted to Captain with 16th Infantry Battalion

27/10/1917  gun shot wounds to legs, right arm and back, received in action
                   admitted to 3rd London General Hospital

19/12/1917  rejoined 16th Infantry Battalion

16/09/1918  Awarded BAR to Military Cross
                   'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in handling his company with
                    great skill. He made a personal reconnaissance of the enemy's position, and
                    rendered valuable and timely support during an attack. During an enemy
                    counter attack he showed a very fine example of courage in encouraging his
                    men to their highest endeavour. Throughout the whole operations his gallantry
                    and powers of leadership were of a very high order.'
