11 Dec 1918: Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads: At Morlancourt on night 28/29th July 1918. This N.C.O. rendered most valuable assistance in organising and supervising all of his Coy's. L.G. Teams prior, during and after the attack. The tactical placing of the guns after final objective had been reached resulted in the effective breaking up of an enemy counter attack, the whole of the attacking party being wiped out. Sergeant Swaffield personally accounted for several of the enemy and set a splendid example to the remainder of the Platoon. He showed rare judgment throughout and rare personal bravery.
