Gunner John Alexander Mollison (Service No:38992) enlisted in the AIF as a Bombardier on 13 April 1917 with 10 Howitzer Battery. Gunner Mollison was attached to Field Artillery Brigade on 26 November 1917 when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for Suez on board SS Indarra. Gunner Mollison embarked from Alexandria on 29 January 1918 on board HT Abassia en route for Southampton via Taranto and Cherbourg. Gunner Mollison embarked from England for Melbourne on 2 March 1919 on board the Derbyhire and was attached to 101 Heavy Battery 1st Field Artillery Brigade at Discharge on 15 May 1919. Three older siblings - Arthur, David and George - also served in WWI. John served in the RAAF in WWII.

John was born in Katamatite, Victoria in 1898, fifth of six children of John Mollison (b1842 in Sydney, NSW) and his second wife Eleanor Medwick (b1862 in Kilmore, Victoria). John (a Widower) was a Boardinghouse Keeper when he and Eleanor married in 1887 in Euroa, Victoria. They settled at  Numurkah where they raised their family and John was a Labourer. In 1896, with a Land Grant under the Katamatite Village Settlement Scheme, John and ELeanor moved to Katamatite. Following John's death in 1903, the land was granted to Eleanor, however in 1904 she was obliged to relinquish the property and moved to Melbourne where she died in 1913.

John completed a Dip Ed and BA at Melbourne University and was teaching in Sale, Victoria when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, John returned to teaching - in Bendigo in 1919, Melbourne in 1922 and Nathalla in Echuca in 1924. In 1925 in Melbourne, John married Eileen Susan Andrew (b1898 in Dunolly, Victoria) - Eileen was working in Melbourne as a Clerk. John and Eileen lived in Mildura and Shepparton where they raised their family and John was a High School Teacher. John served in the RAAF in WWII as a Pilot Officer, and following his Discharge, the family lived in Seymour in the Goulburn Valley before settling in Melbourne. John died in 1977 and Eileen in 1979.
