Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.

107 years ago today, on the 22nd October 1917, Corporal David John Price, known as Dave, 30th Battalion (Reg No-513), labourer (Hexham J & A Brown Workshops), from 37 Bryant Street, Tighes Hill, New South Wales, was Killed in Action at Zonnebeke Ridge, 1st Battle of Passchendaele, age 22. Cause of death not stated.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.

Born at Wallaroo, South Australia on the 3rd October 1895 to John James (died 13.2.1938, Mayfield, N.S.W., age 69) from 8 & 10 Barton Street, Mayfield, New South Wales, and Sarah Elizabeth Price nee Hawkins (died 11.1.1925, Waratah, N.S.W., age 53) from 8 Barton Street, Mayfield, New South Wales, Dave enlisted on the 18th July 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A72 Beltana on the 9th November 1915.

Admitted to hospital 28.11.1916 (trench feet, mild).

Embarked for England 7.12.1916.

Rejoined unit 14.7.1917.

Dave was Killed in Action, Zonnebeke Ridge, Passchendaele, 22nd October.

Cpl Price is resting at Aeroplane Cemetery, Belgium. Plot II Row C Grave 20.

Roll of Honour, Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honour Board (1), Newcastle 39th Fortress Company, Australian Engineers' Roll of Honour, Tighes Hill-United Ancient Order of Druids (Hand of Friendship Branch No. 470) Roll of Honour, Tighes Hill-United Ancient Order of Druids (Hand of Friendship Branch No. 470) Certificate, and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not inscribed on the Hexham J & A Brown Workshops Roll of Honor.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised Price gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of their son for God, King & Country. METHODIST 2 (PRIMITIVE) 24 NW. 13.
