Son of Thomas John Gilchrist and Ellen Lucy Gilchrist nee Drennen of Camp Street, Beechworth, Victoria
Commenced return to Australia on 25 September 1917 aboard HS Kanowra as hospital staff and remained in Australia
Returned to Australia for the second occasion on 24 June 1919 aboard HS Karoola where he was an Orderly. Date of promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal is unknown
