Leonard Benjamin AUDUBON was born in Yass, NSW on 27th July, 1887

His parents were William Bakewell AUDUBON and Lucy Ann GROVENOR

He married Vesta May RAYSON in St Thomas Church in North Sydney on 7th October, 1922

He enlisted to serve during WW1 on 1st October, 1915 at Holdsworthy, NSW and embarked as a Private with the 55th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Reinforcements on 23rd June, 1916 from Sydney on the HMAT Barambah

He returned to Australia on 31st July, 1918 arriving in Melbourne on 28th September, 1918 on the hospital ship Malta suffering from injuiries & illness - he lost his right arm during the war - he was discharged on 7th March, 1920 with the rank of Lance Corporal

During WW2 he re-enlisted with the Army

1. SN N274681 - enlisted 4.8.1941 - discharged 22.5.1942 with the Head quarters NSW Line of Communication area

2. SN N409371 - enlisted 26.6.1942 - discharged 15.9.1942 with the Volunteer Defence Corp

3. SN N435955 - enlisted 16.9.1942 - discharged 17.6.1949 with the Head quarters NSW Line of Communication area

Leonard died in the Repatriation General Hospital in Concord on 27th August, 1951 and was cremated at Rookwood Crematorium in Sydney

Leonards wife Vesta served during WW1 as a Staff Nurse with the AANS and returned to Australia in 1918

He was instrumental in helping set up the local RSL branch in Goulburn & supporting incapacitated servicemen - he was recommended for a Military Medal on 8th April, 1917
