Add my storyBiography
The youngest of three brothers and the first to enlist, he served along side his middle Brother Lance Corporal Hector Ernest Brooks also of the 12th Battalion for almost 12 months to the day when he was killed by a shell on the front line at pozieres.
It was common knowledge to the platoon that Leslie John had been killed but no one wanted to inform his brother of his death, as it is documented in the Red Cross wounded and missing files.
Hector Ernest continued to search for his brother for 6 months until he was officially notified of the death.
