Biography

Allen Edgar ZOLLNER was born in Sydney in 1894

His parents were Martin Leo ZOLLNER and Maude Veronica HOCTOR

He enlisted on 3rd August, 1915 with the 2nd Light Horse Regiment

He was also listed in the war memorial records as being in the 5th Machine gun battalion (Gunner)

He married Renee WILLARD in May, 1917 in Wandsworth UK & was discharged from the army on 30th November, 1917

He returned to Australia on 30th June, 1918 & lived in Queensland where he married Elizabeth Ann WARE in 1924

He died on 17th October,1968 and wife Elizabeth Ann died on 28th November 1968 - they are both buried in Burdekin Cemetery in Queensland - Grave 484C

Allens father Martin Leo ZOLLNER (/explore/people/800199) died in 1900 in the Boer War leaving a wife and 3 children back in Australia

Martin Leo ZOLLNER lived at "Carmyle", West St Petersham, Sydney and was a member of the Sydney Rowing Club. 

On 28th April, 1890 at St Michaels Church of England in Sydney he married Maude HOCTOR. 

Following the outbreak of the South African War he sailed to Cape Town and by 28th February, 1900 had joined Kitcheners Horse, a Unit composed of men from many countries. 

Serving with "G" Squadron, Trooper Zollner was killed on 27th April, 1900 at Thaba Nchu east of Bloemfontaine in the Orange Free State. 

His wife & three children survived him.
