Wounded in action 6 May 1917, near Bullecourt, gunshot wounds to the neck and face. Evacuated to England but died in the Northampton War Hospital 6 weeeks later, death due to cavernous sinus thrombosis.
Brothers: 3586 Pte Alexander Thomas O'DONNELL, 54th Battalion AIF, killed in action, 20 July 1916; Captain John Layman O'DONNELL, 18th Battalion AIF, returned to Australia, 13 March 1918.
