Cyrus Havelock LADE was born on 21st December, 1879 in St Marys, Tasmania
His parents were John LADE & Susannah Rose BELLINGER who married on 19th September, 1865 in Hobart - they had 11 known children
Cyrus first served with the 1st Tasmanian Contingent in the Boer War under Colonel Cameron & served for 349 days until the unit was disbanded from 26th October, 1899 to 8th December, 1900- they returned to Australia on 7th December, 1900 & he was discharged on 10th December, 1900
His 2nd enlistment for the Boer War was with the 1st Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse (E Company) where he served 266 days - the unit returned on 9th August, 1902
In 1904 Cyrus married Leah Geraldine Douglas CAVE in St Davids Church, Hobart - they had two daughters, Geraldine Douglas & Margaret Rose Douglas
His 3rd enlistment was in WW1 & he was with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment (C Squadron) as a Sergeant - he was promoted to Staff Sergeant Major on 23rd December, 1916 and reverted back to Sergeant on 10th January, 1917
Cyrus was wounded twice in January & April 1917 with gunshot wounds to arm & abdomen - he died on 23rd April, 1917 of his wounds at the 53rd Casualty Clearing Station, Palestine & is buried in Deir el Belah War Cemetery in Israel
His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & he has a Memorial Plaque at the Penguin Cemetery in Tasmania which is next to his Fathers grave - he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal , Victory Medal & the 1902 Boer War Clasp
