Arthur Morris 1877 - 1961

A photo taken in the Main St of Wooroolin, Qld motivated me to find out when Arthur Morris lived there so I could date the photo. Of course I should already know that this sort of research will end in some lovely discoveries....
The electoral rolls for 1912 shows Arthur and his 2 brothers George and Robert living at Wooroolin. Arthur is shown as a painter and his brothers as farmers.
I then found a newspaper article that shows Robert Morris bought a 110 acre property at Wooroolin in 1910 from FGataker for 1800.00 pounds. Wonder where this property is! Not sure when Robert left Wooroolin but in 1930 he was running a Pub in Paddington, NSW>
George Morris lived in Wooroolin for a few years from 1909 and then relocated to NSW before returning to Home Creek. George died in 1960 and is buried at Wondai Cemetery.
Back to Arthur Morris the reason for this story and the other interesting facts I found on him.
Arthur Morris is included in the photo of the Wooroolin Band with Jack Jessen, Henry Hubbert & others. (This photo was dated 1910 by Joyce Horne)
A Morris is listed on the Wooroolin WW1 honour board. He enlisted in the Army in Jul 1916. His photo in uniform was shared on Ancestry so I have uploaded it to VWMA.org.au.
Arthur Morris was a Painter & Decorator per his army records so I guess I can assume his shop sold goods for decorating!
As far as I can see Arthur did not return to Wooroolin after the war. He married in 1921 and lived in the Beverly Hills/Hurstville area of Sydney. The electoral rolls still showed him as a Painter. He died in 1961.
The newspaper article for the death of George Morris is where I discovered that I attended school with his grandchildren Barry & Elaine Johnston. His daughter Edna Morris married Gilmore Johnston in 1942 at Wondai.
As I said at the beginning, researching the history of our small town of Wooroolin certainly brings up some lovely connections.
