Mr. J. M. C. Corlette, well-known Newcastle engineer, is a member of a family which has long associations with the Hunter Valley. He was born at Ashfield, Sydney, and was the son of the late Rev. Canon J. C. Corlette, D.D. The latter's father was one' of the officers of the Australian Agricultural Company, and was elected to the first Municipal (Borough) Council in Newcastle. Mr. J. M. C. Corlette was educated at Sydney Grammar School and Sydney University. For 20 years he was Chief Engineer to the Hunter District Water Board. He designed and constructed the Tomago sandbeds water supply and many other large water supply works. He is a past president of the Institution of Civil Engineers (Northern Division), and was awarded the Warren Memorial Prize, 1945, and the P. N. Russell Memorial Medal. 1946, for his contributions to the science and Practice of engineering. Mr. Corlette had more than 30 years' active conmmnissioned service with the Australian Military Forces
and served throughout World War I, during which he attained the rank of Lieut.-Colonel. He served for two years in World War II.
