Arthur Edward Andrew was born on the 24th of June 1893 in Melbourne, Victoria. Living in Cuming Street, Mile End, he was the child of Marion and Richard Andrews. Arthur attended Gillies Street Public School in Adelaide, South Australia. In 1907, Arthur joined the government service in the printing department. Arthur completed military service as a Sergeant in the 1st Senior Cadets from which he was discharged on the 30th of June in 1911.
Arthur Edward Andrew enlisted as a gunner in 1915 on August the 11th, at the age of twenty-two. At this time Arthur was single. His service number is 26672. After enlisting, Arthur embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney on the 7th of September in 1916. He was sent to France to serve in the 6th Field Artillery Brigade.
After being a gunner and fighting for the country throughout World War 1 Arthur served for three years. Wounded in action, Arthur died on the 17th of October in 1918. This occurred in Busigny, France. His place of burial is the Roisel Communal Cemetery extension in France.
Arthur was awarded medals including the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
His family was also connected to the military. Arthur's cousin, Donald Andrew, was in the 2nd Reinforcements 10th Battalion. He was also killed in France.
