He was 45 and the son of William and Phoebe Sampson.
Age on arrival in Australia 15.
Served in Thornycrofts Mounted Infantry and went through South African War.
He became a Sergeant and was one of the men sent to London to represent the colonies at the late King Edward's coronation.
Enlistment date 31 August 1914 Private-9th Battalion, F Company.
Unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board Transport A5 Omrah on 24 September 1914-at this time he was said to be 34 which appears to be incorrect.
