Charles Norman CALLCOTT, (Service Number 52) was born in Tamworth in 1897. He joined the NSWGR in January 1914 as a junior porter at Werris Creek. In June 1914 his left arm was dislocated ‘while frollicking [sic] on duty with junior porter Jones, sick pay not approved.’ In July 1915 he was transferred to West Tamworth, and in February 1916 he was given military leave and enlisted in the AIF at Armidale.
He embarked from Sydney in May 1916 and landed in England in July. He was sent to France in November. In September 1917 he was wounded in action, and spent nine months in England. He returned to France in July 1918. On 8 August he was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux and was buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery (Australian Memorial Cemetery)
