submission for Military Medal
On the 28th August 1918, in the neighbourhood of the village of Foucoucourt, South Of Peronne this man worked with his squad for 12 hours, moving backwards and forwards in a wood on which the enemy had placed a heavy barrage. His dangerous work was carried out in a most Praise-worthy manner. During the night a shell landed near his squad, killing two men and severely wounded a this. Pte Boots carried the wounded man to a place of safety and then reported to the R.N.C. Although suffering from shock, he went for reinforcements, and also volunteered to act as a guide for them. His plucky behaviour, coolness and devotion to duty set a fine example to his comrades.
(sgd) E Tivey. Brig-General. Commanding 5th Australian Division.
