George Washington TURNBULL was born in 1889 in Richmond, Victoria
His parents were George Abraham Lincoln TURNBULL and Georgina Wallace TAYLOR who married in Victoria in 1888 - he was their only son
His father had disappeared many years before and his mother was deceased & George listed his aunt Maud May CAMPBELL as his next of kin - she was also his foster mother
He enlisted in Perth, Western Australia on 4th April, 1916 and embarked with the 15th Field Artillery Brigade, 7th Reinforcements from Melbourne on the HMAT Ulysses on 25th October, 1916
George was Killed in Action on 18th August, 1917 and is buried in Larch Wood (Railway Cutting) Cemetery & his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
Medals: British War Medal & Victory Medal.

His cousin, who was the son of the above Maud Mabel CAMPBELL also served n WW1 (SN 3387) as a Lieutenant and returned to Australia in 1918
