Son of William Haigh and Mary Jane Haigh of Corunna Road, Petersham, NSW
James saw service in France, contracted Trench Fever 1 August 1917 and invalided to American Hospital France - returned to duty. Was wounded on a second occasion and invalided to the 2nd and 3rd General Hospitals France, recovered and returned to duty.
Commenced return to Australia on 22 January 1919 aboard HT Demosthenes disembarking on 2 March 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
