Driver J. ERNEST FOSTER, youngest son of Mrs. F. Foster, of Waverley-street, Upper Mitcham, who, in January of this year, was highly commended by General Sir W. R. Birdwood for conspicuous services rendered in France, was killed in action on August 10. He served six months in Egypt with the 15th Field Ambulance, and was then transferred to France, where for 2½ years he was on active service. He was 25 years of age, and had resided at Mitcham. He was a fine manly fellow, and was held in high esteem by all.
