Maurice Newton BLACKET was born on the 12th of April 1893 in Gumeracha, South Australia. Before he went to war his job was a farmer.
He enlisted in the 5th Pioneer Battalion on the 6th of April 1916 when he was 22 years old, and departed Australia on the 14th of August 1916. His mother was his next of kin on his Attestation Paper, Mrs Martha J Blacket.
He returned to Australia on the 23rd of March 1919 and was later discharged in June. He died on the 2nd of August 1970 at the age of 77 years old. He was buried at Murray Bridge (Adelaide Road) Cemetery, South Australia.
