Born at Singleton, New South Wales on the 18th July 1888 to William Rees and Sarah Alexander; husband of Eva Jordan Alexander nee Newton (married 1911, died?), George enlisted May 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.
George served with his unit at Rabaul, New Britain, and returned home March 1919 as medically unfit with malaria, and was treated at the Randwick Military Hospital for some time.

Mr Alexander’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor, Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Hamilton Methodist Church (Maitland Road) Roll of Honour, Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial (photo, unveiled on the 20th May 1922) and the East Maitland Boys' High School Roll of Honour. Name would be inscribed on the Newcastle Free Gardeners'-Pansy Lodge No. 21 G.U.O.O.F. Roll of Honour (not located). Name would also be inscribed on the Lodge Star in the East Roll of Honour, unsure if this ever existed.
Unfortunately, there is no indication on George’s headstone that he served during The Great War, so I have placed poppies in honour of his service and sacrifice with the 1st A.I.F.

I am quite certain Mr Alexander’s death can be attributed to his war service, so I will be submitting an application for a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, to be placed at the New South Wales Garden of Remembrance, Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, N.S.W. Contact with descendants would be much appreciated.
Younger brother Reginald Harry (Reg No-6215, born 1896, died 1951) also served 1st A.I.F.

Served and suffered during The Great War, now resting at Sandgate Cemetery.
89 years ago today, on the Tuesday afternoon of the 15th August 1933, Sergeant George Robert Alexander, Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force, Army Medical Corps (Reg No-585), timekeeper from 11 Murray Street, Hamilton, New South Wales and 1 Lindsay Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., father of three (Ronald, Reginald, Nita), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 45. METHODIST 1 (WESLEYAN) C SW. 72.
Born at Singleton, New South Wales on the 18th July 1888 to William Rees and Sarah Alexander; husband of Eva Jordan Alexander nee Newton (married 1911, Hamilton, N.S.W., died?), George enlisted May 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.
George served with his unit at Rabaul, New Britain, and returned home March 1919 as medically unfit with malaria, and was treated at the Randwick Military Hospital for some time.
Mr. Alexander’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor (photo, unveiled on the 23th May 1918, 430 names to be inscribed, 372 names now inscribed, 36 Fallen, located at the corner of Tudor, Steel and Denison Streets, Hamilton, N.S.W.), Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Hamilton Methodist Church (Maitland Road) Roll of Honour, Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial and the East Maitland Boys' High School Roll of Honour. Unfortunately, there is no indication on George’s headstone that he served during The Great War, so I have placed poppies in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
Service record states Died after Discharge, 13.8.1933, so I will be submitting an application to DVA asking for a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque to be placed at Mr. Alexander’s gravesite to restore his Honour and Dignity.
Younger brother Reginald Harry (Reg No-6215, 2nd Battalion, born 1896, Hamilton, N.S.W., died 1951, Sydney, N.S.W.) also served 1st A.I.F.
Contact with descendants would be much appreciated.
