My Maternal 1st Cousin 2X Removed.
20 year old, 21307 Trooper, Thomas Edward Peter BIRT, was a Queensland Country recruit from Kingaroy who had lived in a horse saddle from a young age, so easily qualified for "1st ALH" in October, 1915.
He was among the toughest, but youngest of his unit, so when the "9th Field Artillery Brigade" was being formed in May, 1916, he was recommended for the "Brigade Ammunition Column" where his toughness would be useful humping boxes of 18-pound artillery shells around to the Batteries.
