Private Stan Ayoub, a young Syrian from Coonamble, recently distinguished himself by saving a comrade who was drowning in the Suez Canal. A Sergeant Major writing of the incident says that the brave action was witnessed by about 200 men, all of whom felt that the deed was worthy of special recognition. It may be mentioned that quite a number of Syrians are serving with the Australian forces They bitterly hate the Turks, who have so grossly persecuted their people.
