Biography

"LATE GNR. J. E. GABRIELSON.

Machine-Gnr. John Eric Gabrielson, third son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Gabrielson, of the Stockade Reserve, died of gunshot wounds in the 12th General Hospital, Rouen Park, France, on October 11. He was 20 years and 6 months old, and was born at the Metropolitan Fire Station, Adelaide. He was educated at Northfield and Nailsworth public schools, and at the North Adelaide and Adelaide High Schools. He enlisted in Victoria on July 3, 1915, and embarked with the 8th Battalion in September of the same year. Early in April, 1916, he arrived in France, and was transferred to the 1st Australian Machine Gun Company. He had an upright and manly character, and his early death is greatly regretted." - from the Adelaide Observer 24 Nov 1917 (nla.gov.au)
