Owen Cressy BARRY was born in Harwood Island, Clarence River, New South Wales
His parents were Arthur Cressy BARRY & Edwyna PHILLIPS who married in Sydney in 1889

Lieutenant Owen Cressy Barry
4th Squadron , Royal Flying Corps
Son of Arthur Cressy Barry and Edwyna Phillips (+1904) , of 182, Kurraba Road, Neutral Bay, New South Wales .
Born 23 June 1891 , Harwood Island , Clarence Valley, NSW and educated at The Armidale School
Employed as a Sugar Cane Inspector at the Colonial Sugar Ref Co.
Enlisted 21 February 1915 at Liverpool , NSW and was posted on1 March 1915 , as a trooper, to the 12th Australian Light Horse.
Embarked , 25 August 1915, at Alexandria , Egypt per Troopship ' Marquette' for Gallipoli .
By mid-November 1915 he was back in Egypt where he contracted influenza and dysentry , rejoined the 12th Light Horse after recovery.
On 3 July 1917 sailed for Marseille France and taken on strength 7 August 1917 Australian Flying Corps Depot at Wendover.
Gazetted Second Lieutenant , 14 November 1917 in the Australian Flying Corps and promoted Lieutenant 14 February 1918.
Proceeded to France , 27 February 1918 and taken on strength into 4th Squadron , AFC .
Killed in action 11 May 1918, while on a bombing mission to destroy the ammunition dumps at Armentieres which was succesful.
On the way back, they were surprised by German planes.
Lieutenant Barry , after a fierce fight, went down in flames.
Commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial .
Aged : 27
His brother Cyril also enlisted, 14 September 1915, and was posted to the 3rd Division Artillery as a Battery Signaller becoming a pilot in 6th Squadron , AFC.
He survived the War and returned to Australia.

Served as a Trooper in the 6th Light Horse, Citizen Military Forces, Tweed River.Served with the 12th Light Horse in Egypt; later at Gallipoli and Gaza, serving with the 4 Australian Flying Corps for 10 months.
