Enlisted 17 August 1915 in 9th Light Horse Brigade at Adelaide, South Australia. Unit embarked for Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAS SS Hawkes Bay on 26 October 1915.
Served Egypt.
Transferred to 3rd Light Horse Training Regiment, 20 February 1917, then to 9th Light Horse Regiment, 27 June 1917.
Returned to Australia 10 July 1919 on HT Oxfordshire.
He was captain of the Mount Pleasant Football Club prior to his enlistment.
Commemorated on the Mount Pleasant Soldiers' Memorial Hall Honor Board, Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church Honor Board and St John Anglican Honor Board at Mount Pleasant.
