Action for which Recommended -
*For gallantry in action at SALAHIYE on 30th September 1918. This N.C.O. was in charge of one of the leading patrols which operated in the gardens south of SALAHIYE. His work in clearing the gardens of snipers and machine guns to and in quickly moving forward to the line was of the highest order. After reaching the railway Cpl CLARKE along with Sgt Owens pressed through to the road and closed it against all traffic.*
