Mr Ralph Cocks was born on November 1883 in the suburb of Glanville, Adelaide. At enlistment he was a single man with no children and his next of kin was his sister. He worked as a labourer before he left to war.
He was 31 years old when he enlisted on the 13th of September 1915. He disembarked at Suez 11th March 1916 for further training and then was sent to France arriving at Marseilles 14th June 1915. He was taken on strength 27th July 1916. He was wounded in action 4th September 1916 and hospitalised. While in hospital he developed influenza too. After a period of recovery he rejoined his unit in February 1917. He was evacuated sick with haemorrhoids in September 1917 and spent more time in hospital returning to his unit 6th October 1917. Not long after he was wounded again on the 19th October with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. He spent several months convalescing and was sent to depto and completed some further training. Once again he embarked to the front in August 1918.
He returned home on the 13 April 1919, disembarking in June and was discharged from the AIF on 21st July 1919. He passed away on the 9 December 1976.
