This N.C.O. was in charge of the rationing of the line. He carried out his duty unfailingly having to pass twice daily over open country at that time almost continually under shell fire. He has done excellent work on many other occasions.

Military Medal Citation
For gallantry and devotion to duty during the recent operations to the East of YPRES on October 15th, 1917. This N.C.O. was in charge of a bearer Subdivision, while he was at a Post near ZONNEBEEKE enemy fire in the surrounding area became very heavy and a number of casualties occurred. Sgt. JOHNS went out while the fire was at its hottest, dressed men in the open and assisted others to the post. His conduct throughout the operation from Oct. 15th to October 20th was of the very highest order and was a gallant example to the men in his charge
