52 years ago today, on the 2nd September 1968, Staff Sergeant Thomas James McIlveen, 1st Australian Field Ambulance (Reg No-54), hospital attendant from the Hospital for Insane, Newcastle, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 86. CATHOLIC 3-94. 95.
Born at Tamworth, New South Wales on the 30th December 1881 to Thomas James and Mary Christina McIlveen of Price Street, Islington, New South Wales (PRESBYTERIAN 19SW. 81.); husband of Mary McIlveen nee Matich (married 1917, Islington, N.S.W., died 1979), Thomas enlisted as a widower August 1914 at Sydney, N.S.W.
Thomas returned home April 1917 for family reasons unknown, and was discharged on the 2nd June 1917.
