Aubrey John BANNAH WW1 5538
Aubrey John Bannah was born at Camboon, Queensland, 18 October 1890, to parents Peter and Delia Agnes Bannah, formely McGrath.
Whilst employed on Buckingham Downs Station, via Bourke, NSW, as a Stockman and Drover, Aubrey enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces, at Cloncurry on 5 April 1916. He embarked from Brisbane on Board HMAT A46, Clan MacGillivray on 7 September 1916 and disembarked at Plymouth on 2 November 1916. He proceeded from England to the Western Front on 19 December 1916, and served in France and Belgium with the 15/26 Battalin AIF.
After being wounded in action and receiving gas shell poising, during 1917/1918, Aubrey was treated several times at Chester and Reading war Hospitals.
Due to war injuries Aubrey was returned from England to Australia on 7 June 1918, and discharged from the AIF on 19 August 1918.
Aubrey was mentioned in dispatches for his work, on 4 October 1917, at BROODSEINDE Ridge.
He was recommended for a Military Medal for his work at ZONNEBEKE on 4 October 1917.
After WW1 Aubrey Managed Dawson Vale Station, in partnership with his brother Tom. He married his childhood sweetheart, Alberta Clarice Clements, formely Callaghan, April 19, 1934.
