Son of Isabella and the late Charles Herbert Wynyard Battye, of 37, Wentworth Rd., Strathfield, New South Wales. Brother of 1032 Sergeant Raymond Vincent Battye, returned to Australia on 3 July 1919
Member of the Scone 183 Lodge
Word was received in town on Wednesday last that Captain Eric Charles Battye, who enlisted from Scone nearly three years ago, had been killed in Palestine on the 16th inst. The deceased officer, who was about 35 years of age, and was a son of Mrs. Battye, of ' ''Wynyard,'' Strathfield, was a popular officer in the local Citizen Forces, first in the local Infantry and then in the Light Horse, prior to enlisting. A capable young man, and very popular with all who knew him, he was, for some years, managing Messrs. Edols' property interests in this district. His associates, who are legion, have learned with feelings of deep sorrow of his having given up his life—one which was full of promise—and at the same time will extend their sympathy to those of his people, and especially his estimable and respected mother, who mourn the loss of such a gallant son and brother. The late Captain Battye was a member of the 1st A.L.H. Regiment. Another brother (Ray) who is likewise fav orably known hereabout, is also onactive service abroad.
