Charles Augustin/Augustus was the third of five children of Charles Brown (born 1871 in Adelong, NSW) and Ellen Josephine McAuliffe (born 1870 in St Laurence, QLD). Charles was living in Brisbane, QLD with his mother, and working as a Boat Builder according to his Attestment Papers, when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916 in Brisbane, QLD. Charles served with 41st Battalion and was Discharged in 1918.
Charles returned to Brisbane, QLD and in 1920 married Ellen (Nell) Susan Stewart (born 1898 in Brisbane, QLD). Charles and Nell lived in Coorparoo in Brisbane, QLD where Charles worked as a Carter. They had moved to Sydney, NSW by 1930 when their first child was born.
Charles wnlisted in Randwick, Sydney, NSW in July 1940 in the AMF and served with 5 and 2 Reconnaissance Training Battalions as Captain (Service Nos: NP9300/N100165) and was Discharged on 21 January 1949. Younger brother John Arthur also served with the ACMF (Service No: Q123399).
Nell died in Sydney in Sydney, NSW and Charles in 1978 in Sydney. NSW
