Formerly Associate to Mr. Justice Gordon.
He is a well-known Sydney barrister, and was colonel of the old volunteer regiment, the Scottish Rifles, before the war. In June, 1915, he went away in charge of the 19th Battalion, and saw service in the Gallipoli campaign, being present at the Suvla Bay operations. He subsequently went to France, and only this week a letter was received in Sydney by the 19th Battalion Comforts Fund acknowledging Christmas gifts on behalf of the battalion. He was well, and had just had ten days' leave in London. Some time ago Lieut.-Col. Mackenzie was awarded the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus. He is the third of four brothers, one of whom, Mr. Harley Mackenzie, of the firm of solicitors, Messrs. Bowman and Mackenzie, died recently. His mother, sister, and two other brothers now reside in Melbourne. Lieut.-Col. Mackenzie took his degree at Oxford University.
DEATH OF LAW VETERAN
Lieut-Colonel William Kenneth Seaforth Mackenzie, D.S.O., who was admitted to the New South Wales Bar in 1895, died last week. Only one other person, Sir Robert Garran, Q.C., had been in practice at the Bar for longer than Lieut-Colonel Mac-kenzie. Lieut-Colonel Mackenzie was noted for his edition of "Divorce Practice," a text book which is still the standard work in the matrimonial causes jurisdiction of N.S.W. Until a few months before his death he was editor of the N.S.W. Law Reports and Weekly Notes. Lieut-Colonel Mac-kenzie commanded the 19th Battalion of the 1st A.I.F. and saw service in Egypt, Gallipoli and France.
