Allan Brand was born in NSW (New South Wales), Australia 1898 but he grew up in Renmark, South Australia. He was a Baptist and he was a station hand before he signed up, on the 13 of November 1915 in the 9th Light Horse Regiment, 14 Reinforcement, Australian Imperial Force. His first Rank was Private. He was single and 18 when he signed up and his unit embarked from Adelaide to the battle ground on board HMAT A69 Warilda on the 10 of February 1916.
He transferred to the 55th Battalion as ‘Gunner BRAND’ which is where he was awarded the Military Medal a Medal for bravery. Gunner BRAND and two corporals put out a fire that destroyed one gun and several rounds of ammunition but thanks to them they didn’t lose anyone. BRAND won the Military Medal, British Medal and Victory Medal. He married on the 20th of April 1927 to Doris NICHOLLS. He died in 1968.
