Military Medal
Military Medal
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at MONT de MERRIS near STRAZEELE, France, on 14th April, 1918. During a powerful enemy attack against the ridge, under heavy rifle and machine gun fire, Private SULLIVAN, together with the No. 1 of his Lewis Gun took up a position 200 yards in advance of his Company line of resistance with a Lewis Gun and inflicted many casualties on the advancing waves. When the enemy was within 150 yards of them the gun was withdrawn to the Company outpost lines. Here he took up an exposed position and continued to serve the gun for the No. 1. When the N.C.O. of the gun was wounded he took it over and continued firing. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, he set a splendid example to all ranks.'
