Sydney Valentine Cameron Daniels was born on the 5th of March in 1884. He lived in his hometown of Glenelg in South Australia, Australia. His immediate family included his mother, Jane Cameron, and father, William Daniels, and siblings John William Cameron Daniels, George Walter Daniels, Caroline Amelia Daniels, Richard Charles Daniels, Wilfred Cameron Daniels, Julia Emma Daniels, Helena Isabel Harrietta Daniels, Ivan Henry Daniels, Olive Amy Jane Daniels, David Owen Daniels, Leonard Stephen Daniels and Clifton Kenneth Daniels. He worked as a fitter.
He decided to enlist and enlisted for the war on the 6th of July in 1915 when he was 31 years old and 4 months. His service number was 471. Sydney embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board the HMAT A2 Geelong on the 18th of November in 1915. He was aged 31 years old at the time.
Although Sydney had enlisted in the 32nd Battalion, he was soon transferred to the 5th Pioneer Battalion and served most of the war in that unit. He was often sick in hospital but otherwise survived the war.
Sydney Valentine Cameron Daniels disembarked on the 12th of April, 1919, and returned to Australia after 3 years and 334 days of service on the 25th of February in 1919 due to Cessation of Hostilities, or enemy ceasefire. He died at 70 years of age of circumstances unrelated to the war.
He will always be remembered by those who knew him, and those who hear of his story.
