Biography

Robert Bartholomew FONTANA was born in 1889 in Avenel, Victoria

His parents were Domenico FONTANA and Mary SUTTON

He had previous service with the 15th Light Horse (Avenel) when he enlisted on 14th September, 1915 with the 4th Light Horse Regiment, 14th Reinforcements - Unit embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Themistocles on 28th January, 1916 - His last posting was with the 1st Anzacs Cyclist Battalion.

Robert was Killed in Action on 1st September, 1918 in France - he is buried in Hebecourt British Cemetery & also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial - he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
